Star Parties

Haggart Observatory Clear Sky Chart prediction for the next 48 hours

Haggart Observatory Public Nights and Star Parties
Located at the John Inskeep Environmental Learning Center of Clackamas Community College, Oregon City, Oregon and managed by the Rose City Astronomers

Through a partnership with Clackamas Community College, the Rose City Astronomers (RCA) maintains the Haggart Observatory and coordinates public access to the Haggart Observatory.

We have scheduled the following Public Nights at the Haggart Observatory, and invite those interested to visit the Observatory the hours listed below.

Please NOTE If the weather is "iffy" during the day of the event, call 503-594-6044 Option 1 after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the event for a recorded message to see if we will be operating that night. You can also check the RCA home page for updates after 3pm.

If you plan on attending one of these Public Nights, please pay attention to the following:

  • There is no registration or charge, just show up and enjoy the views through the telescopes.

  • Depending on the number of people showing up at any one time, you may have to wait your turn to view through the main telescope - and your viewing time may be limited in order to give others waiting a similar opportunity.

  • You will have to be physically able to climb stairs to reach the observing deck and a ladder to actually view through the telescope.

  • Please DO NOT bring flashlights of any kind. There is adequate local light to see the path to the observatory and climb the stairs.

  • Limited parking is located directly across from the observatory and in nearby lots.

  • If the weather is "iffy" during the day of the event, please call 503-594-6044 Option 1 after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the event to hear a recorded message announcing whether the event will be held or cancelled. If the sky forecast is no worse than "partly cloudy" we will usually go forward with an event. Click on the "Haggart Clear Sky Chart" at the top of this page to look at the prediction we generally rely on when making our decision whether or not to cancel an event.
